Decorating Tips For a Sports Themed Game Room

By Leon Tuberman

If you have a huge sports fan in your home, a sports themed game room can be the perfect addition to your house. There are wide varieties of sports themes that you can implement for a game room. It all depends on what style you want. You can choose from a specific sport, a specific professional sports team, a college or university athletics program or just any and all sports that you love. Here are some tips when it comes to decorating a sports themed game room.

Decorating the Walls in a Sports Theme

Decorating the walls of a game room in a sports theme doesn’t have to be expensive at all. In fact, you can easily decorate with items that you may already have lying around the house.

· Tack jerseys up on the wall with nails or long push pins. The jerseys can be professional teams, college teams or even your old jerseys.

· Inexpensive posters can be bought at most stores that sell sports memorabilia or even movie posters.

· Other sports décor items like a team or school blanket or a huge wall clock can also be used to decorate the walls.

Another option for decorating the walls in a sports theme is to put up some shelving units or a few sturdy shelves on the walls and display your sports items. Such things that you can display are balls, trophies, autographed memorabilia, and other sports equipment. Just be sure that the items that you place on the shelves are stable and will not come crashing down on someone.

Necessary Furniture for a Sports Themed Game Room

If you want a game room, then you are definitely going to need a television and most likely some sort of gaming system to play games on as well as watch movies on. You don’t need the biggest television, but for proper game playing you will need a medium sized television.

Another wise furniture choice is an entertainment center to house the television, gaming system and supplies, CDs, DVDS, and any other gadgets you may have in the room. An entertainment center helps to keep the room organized and clean so that everything has a place. You can choose to display some sports themed items on the top of the center for some extra character.

Comfortable seating is a must for a game room. You can choose to buy seating that is the color of the team or school you have decorated with, or you can buy a neutral color like a tan or cream color. Add some decorative pillows to the chairs or couches to add a sports feeling to the room. There are plenty of professional and collegiate teams that have decorative pillows available. Another option is to throw a sports blanket on the back of the couch or chair.

Creating a sports themed game room should not be that hard as there are so many different sports décor items that you can use. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money, then get creative and use the items that you already have like old baseball cards, your old sports equipment, and any other sports memorabilia that someone may want to donate to your game room.
